I saw this excellent steam punk guitar design...

...and I got the idea to make metal trim on my Gretsch. I bought a sheet of .019 sheet aluminum and cut the strips wide.

My original idea was to go steam punk all the way with brass and aluminum pieces. I made this mock up in photohop, but something was just not right so I changed my mind.

The truth is that this edging mucked up the design of the Gretsch guitar which is too beautiful and perfect to sully. I still wanted metal binding. I thought that it, not only went well with my silver sparkle top, but it also would also serve to hide the edge of the laminate.

So I decided to go thin and cement it on the guitar itself.

Here is the edge with a thin strip of contact cement.

Then I secured the finely honed metal strips with tape.

And the final result...
